Update May 10, 2008

Or should I call this an ‘oops-date’. I got a comment on my Red Rose entry this morning, and was surprised to see that it’s been that long since I’ve posted anything! But I have been busy in both my professional and private lives in recent weeks, so it’s not like I’ve been ignoring this blog.
The weather has gotten gorgeous here in Europe. I am so in love with it! I’ve replanted most of the planters and boxes on the balcony, so in the mornings I get up and pad outside in my robe to water everybody. I usually go out into the garden in the early evenings, too, to check on the status of the bulbs and shoots we’ve planted, as well as to give everyone a drink down there, too. I had been spending several hours about every other day working in the garden, but it’s too hot for that right now. I will have to move my gardening time to later in the day. ChessMan and I stopped off at OBI (kind of like Home Depot in the States) while in Aachen yesterday, and picked up some sage and lemon thyme, as well as a new sort of ground cover, for the garden.
I have a lot on my plate at the moment. Life is really putting me through the ringer. There was a time in life when I had an ultra-busy professional life, but was emotionally flat-lining. Now there seem to be stabs and jabs (but also tickles and licks) every which way I turn. Sometimes – when I am feeling philosophical – I think that this period of my life is a passageway to even bigger and better things. To an even bigger and better ME. At other time, I admit, it all seems just too, too much and I worry about buckling under the pressure of it.
How do I deal with those down times? I try to honor their existance and accept the real sense of fear they ignite in me. But I also try as hard as I can to remember that tomorrow is always another day, and that there is no problem for which there isn’t at least one solution.
I promised to keep this short, but I want to leave you with something I discovered while checking out another one of my favorite blogs, The Rest of Yesterday. I really love this song and have played the death out of it in recent weeks! It’s Lizz Wright’s magnificent rendition of “Stop”.

u need to post more pics of the flowers pls 4 me
Thanks for checking in and reminding me of something I planned to do. Namely, take some “before and after” shots of the garden this year. The gladiolas are starting to come up, as are the verbena and echinicea. The strawberries, mint and lemon balm are already really healthy. I’ll be posting the “before’ shots before I leave for Madrid, I hope – then give an update when things are in full bloom.
“..stabs and jabs (but also tickles and licks)” – I love it:)
